After her Mum, Joanne, was diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2020, our Pink Ribbon Foundation Ambassador Christine McGuinness  underwent her own BRCA test with our friends at Myogenes to check whether she was also a carrier of the gene.

Christine’s Mum is doing really well and is in remission, and although her family have a history of cancer, Christine has thankfully been given the all clear. In her interview with OK Magazine, she discusses the importance of getting tested.

She quoted “it doesn’t mean I can’t get cancer, but it means my chances are the same as anybody else’s.”

The tests at Myogenes are focused on making sure you are aware of the risks. Even if you do carry the BRCA1 or 2 gene, it doesn’t mean that you will develop cancer in the future, but your chances of developing cancer may be higher. Your genes only partly influence your future health risks.

If cancer runs in your family and you’d like to manage your health proactively, contact them about getting a test today.
