For most women, losing their hair can be a very upsetting experience.
Once the hair is gone, a different kind of beauty emerges.
Other features draw our attention; delicately or strongly outlined cheekbones, cheerful freckles, the shape of the lips, a certain sparkle in the eyes.
The hair no longer detracts our attention from the pure beauty of a face.
Faces that in the absence of the framework normally provided by hair, radiate strength, emotion, and femininity.
It takes courage to let others see you without your hair. Not only are these women ‘bald,’ they are above all ‘BOLD’: strong and courageous.
The Pink Ribbon Foundation in association with award winning photographer Caroline Sikkenk are pleased to announce that the BOLD project will be launched in Glasgow in May 2025 – in what is also the charity’s 25th anniversary year.
Caroline’s BOLD photo project highlights the beauty of women of all ages who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy, intensive radiation treatment or the autoimmune disease alopecia and includes women from all around the world.
In February 2024 the Pink Ribbon Foundation (focusing on hair loss due to breast cancer) placed the inspiring images of 13 women* in the UK who had been affected by breast cancer and hair loss, onto the iconic Piccadilly Lights and the Midtown board in Times Square, New York simultaneously to coincide with #WorldCancerDay.
In March/April 2024, the Foundation were invited by The Sidings, Waterloo to exhibit the BOLD collection, to allow members of the public to see these stunning portraits, learn more about the charity and pick up important information about being breast aware.
Then in October 2024 to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM), a new, high quality table top photo book was published to celebrate the many women (along with their friends and family) who have taken part in the BOLD project and been photographed by Caroline.
Now, to further highlight the beauty, strength, and resilience in being BALD, the Pink Ribbon Foundation will be inviting women in and around Glasgow who have lost their hair due to treatment for breast cancer (or who are in the early stages of hair regrowth) to have their portrait taken by Caroline and join the BOLD family. Photos will be taken in May and we will be looking for our Scottish BOLD ladies very soon - so watch this space!
If you are a brand/company who would like to get behind this project (i.e. hotels, studios, restaurants, airlines etc) please get in touch with me today 🙏
*Sadly in 2024/2025 the BOLD family lost two of its 13 beautiful ladies – both Sally Franklin and Linda Nolan had long battled secondary breast cancer and leave behind loved ones – but also a wonderful legacy in their association with the project.
